Terroir
Natural factors
- Muschelkalk shapes the steep slopes along the Kocher, Jagst, and Neckar with skeleton-rich, fossil-rich soils.
- The Keuper formation, with its reddish, nutrient-rich Mergel, characterizes the remaining wine country of Hohenlohe.
- Deep Löss soils on valley flanks and plains, as well as Gipskeuper soils, complement the range of soil types in the Neckar valley.
- Elevations range from 150 m (Lower Neckar) to 510 m above sea level (Upper Neckar/Albtrauf), with mean annual temperatures of 9.3–10.5 °C.
- Terraced Steillagen and a climate that allows even late-ripening varieties to reach full maturity define the character of the region.
Human factors
- Terraced Steillagen, alongside a diversity of soils, shape the Landwein region of Württemberg.
- In the Kocher-Jagst-Tauber area, the harsher autumn climate favours early-ripening white grape varieties.
Product characteristics
- White wines from Kocher-Jagst-Tauber: high in acidity, light-bodied, crisp, lively, delicate, and elegant.
- The wines of the region are shaped primarily by vintage and grape variety.
Terroir / wine link
- Harsher climates encourage early-ripening white wines with pronounced acidity, liveliness, and delicacy in the Kocher-Jagst-Tauber area.
