Natural factors
- Heterogeneous soils: alluvial plains, marine terraces, clayey hills, marne, marly limestones, dolomitic limestones and dolomites, gypsiferous-sulfurous outcrops.
- Maritime Mediterranean climate: rainfall concentrated in autumn–winter, nearly absent in summer; mild temperatures due to proximity to the sea.
- The chain of the Monti Sicani to the north and a system of valleys with varying exposures toward the coast create topographic conditions favorable to viticulture.
- Production zone: the communes of Sciacca and Caltabellotta (province of Agrigento), with a total territorial area of 31,352 ha and vineyards covering 3,160 ha.
Human factors
- In 1971 the Consorzio Enologico Agrigentino Kronion was established, bringing together ten cooperative wineries in the province for the commercialization and processing of wines.
Terroir / wine link
