Terroir
Natural factors
- The soil depth ensures sufficient water reserves even in the drought years typical of Salento.
- Flat inland area of the Salento hinterland, between the provinces of Brindisi and Lecce, with a hot, arid climate and scarce rainfall.
Human factors
- DOC established in 1976 on the basis of red and rosé wines made from Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera, already well established in national and international markets in the early 1900s.
- The Puglian alberello, a historic training system, has declined from covering 90% of the vineyard surface (up to the 1980s) to a current maximum of 20%, displaced by the trellis-trained espalier.
Product characteristics
- Ruby red in color with possible orange reflections upon aging; full, dry, robust yet velvety on the palate. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Vinous, ethereal, and intense on the nose, with a harmonious character on the palate. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
