Terroir
Natural factors
- Hilly coastal soils with a sandy-clay structure, loose, with medium-low water retention and low humus content.
- Alluvial plains of arenaceous and clayey nature formed by the Foro, Sangro, Sinello, and Trigno rivers, bordered by clay hills.
- Day-to-night temperature fluctuations, favored by the proximity of the Maiella massif, promote the accumulation of aromatic compounds in the grape clusters.
- Winkler Index ranging between 1,700 degree-days (inland areas) and 2,300 degree-days (coastal hills), accommodating both early- and late-ripening varieties.
Human factors
- Viticulture concentrated in the intermontane basins of L'Aquila (Alto Tirino, Valle Peligna, Valle Subequana, Valle Roveto), on well-drained alluvial soils.
