Natural factors
- Heterogeneous geology: predominance of calcareo and argillo-scistose formations, with soils also derived from Pliocene sands and clays.
- Gentle hilly terrain: prevailing average altitude of 250 m a.s.l., with maximum peaks reaching 400 m a.s.l.
- High water-holding capacity of the soils: irrigation is used only rarely and exclusively as an emergency measure.
Human factors
- The first Pisan Wine and Oil Fair was organized in 1885 on the initiative of the Comizio Agrario di Pisa, convened in 1884.
Product characteristics
- With aging, the wines develop more intense aromas and flavors, bringing out the full potential of the pedoclimatic terroir.
- The wines display visual, olfactory, and gustatory balance, with organoleptic characteristics that are recognizable and typified by the geographic environment.
Terroir / wine link
- Clay-loam and silt-loam soils derived from calcaree and argillo-scistose formations promote visual, olfactory, and gustatory balance in the wines.
