Terroir
Natural factors
- Vineyard altitude 400–600 m, in the central part of Πάρος, between Παροικία and Λευκά.
- Stony soils derived from granites, calcareous rocks (marbles), gneisses, and micas.
- Temperate μεσογειακό κλίμα with lower temperatures due to altitude, resulting in a late harvest (όψιμος τρύγος).
- Summer winds constitute a distinctive factor in the uniqueness of the zone.
- Presence of manganese in the area, mined until 1960 at the Θαψανά quarries.
Human factors
- Viticulture on Πάρος has continued uninterrupted from antiquity to the present day, closely linked to cultural and economic life.
- The harvest at Θαψανά is late (όψιμος τρύγος) due to the altitude of 400–600 m, relative to the lowland and coastal areas of Πάρος.
