Terroir
Natural factors
- A transitional zone between the causse quercynois and argilo-calcareous hillsides, at the northeastern tip of Lot-et-Garonne, on the left bank of the Lot.
- Soils over Kimmeridgian substrates (alternating grey marls and limestones) in the centre; Cretaceous Turonian to the north; Tertiary molasse and Agenais limestone to the south.
- Two main soil types: rendzinas over Tertiary limestones and calcic brown soils over molassic formations.
- A degraded oceanic climate: hot, dry summers and a spring wetter than winter; prevailing westerly winds and autan winds in autumn. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- The relief divides into two sub-units: convex-sloped ridges to the north; south-west-facing hillsides with plateaux in narrow strips known as 'serres' to the south.
