Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils on Pliocene sediments resting on a Paleozoic crystalline basement, with Miocene conglomerate outcrops.
- Climate ranging from subhumid to subarid: rainfall concentrated in autumn and winter, a pluviometric minimum in June, and a marked summer water deficit.
- On the hilly relief, sandy or conglomeratic soils predominate, shallow in depth, with signs of hydromorphia within 50 cm.
- On ancient fluvial terrace surfaces: medium-textured soils, sub-acid reaction, with a clay accumulation horizon.
Human factors
- The IGT denomination takes its name from the Neto river, which rises in the Sila Grande and flows into the Ionian Sea after crossing the provinces of Cosenza and Crotone.
- The territory forms part of the Marchesato di Crotone, a feudal aggregation established by the Ruffo family between 1390 and 1444, whose memory has survived in the local toponym.
Product characteristics
- Climate ranging from subhumid to subarid, with a marked summer water deficit: a condition that concentrates aromas and structure in the grapes.
- Soils on Pliocene sediments and varicolored clays over a Paleozoic crystalline basement influence the mineral profile of the wines.
Terroir / wine link
- Soils on Pliocene sediments over a Paleozoic crystalline basement, with Miocene varicolored argille: diversified substrates that generate a pronounced pedological variety.
