Terroir
Natural factors
- Tectonic depression formed by the sliding of materials toward the sea; ~122 km² across the municipalities of Candelaria, Arafo, and Güímar.
- Altitudinal rainfall gradient: 161 mm/year on the coast → 504 mm at Izaña; mean temperature: 19.5 °C (sea level) → 9.8 °C (summits).
- Two viticultural strata: porous, hygroscopic volcanic soils (400–800 m, mulched with jable) and dark, highly fertile clay soils (800–1,700 m).
- Izaña records 3,448.5 hours of sunshine per year, the highest figure in the national territory; this level of insolation imparts tropical fruit notes to the wines.
Product characteristics
- Harmonious and highly aromatic wines, with a mineral edge and tropical fruit notes, attributable to the climate and high insolation.
- Broad chromatic and aromatic diversity linked to the difference in altitude between the two viticultural strata.
Terroir / wine link
- The high level of insolation and the zone's climate directly account for the tropical fruit notes found in the wines.
Facts drawn from the cahier's terroir-link section (Lien au terroir) by automatic interpretation — see the the specification.
