• Zone comprising 7 communes in the north-east of the Lot, on the borders of the Haut-Quercy and the first foothills of the Massif Central (Ségala)
• Clay-limestone soils derived from Jurassic causses dissected by the Cère, the Mamoul, and the Bave (tributaries of the Dordogne)
• Plots established on the upper slopes of well-exposed hillsides with marked relief, resulting from the dissection of the secondary-period limestone causses
• Atlantic climate with continental and Mediterranean influences; cold winters, hot and dry summers, mild autumns
