Natural factors
- The PGI encompasses 15 communes situated on the face and slope of the Côtes de Meuse escarpment, supporting nearly 40 hectares of vines, entirely within the single département of the Meuse.
- The vineyard is planted mainly between 260–270 and 310–350 metres above sea level on the cuesta slope, whose hillsides face predominantly east and south.
- The soils have developed over Oxfordian Jurassic marls, covered by calcareous scree mixed with clays derived from the weathering of those marls. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- The climate is temperate continental in character, with cold, dry winters (mean temperature below 3 °C), summers with mean temperatures approaching 18 °C in July, and autumns that are often exceptionally sunny.
