The slate subsoil area is bordered to the West by a marked soil change to alluvial sand from the old River Camel river bed.
To the South, the site is again bordered by the River Camel's old river bed of sand, giving it sandy boundaries on two sides.
To the East the land levels out, providing not enough of a steep slope, with the aspect also starting to face slightly East of South.
To the North the land rises above what is considered the optimum thermal band for the site.
