Natural factors
- Vineyard concentrated on the gneissic and schistose hillsides of Verneuil-sur-Vienne, roughly ten kilometres east of Limoges. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Temperate oceanic climate, with mean annual rainfall of 1,050 mm (above the national average), cool winters and fairly warm summers.
- Gently rolling relief of hills, valleys and plateaux shaped by differential erosion of the Hercynian basement, traversed from east to west by the Vienne river.
- The northern and central parts of the département, less subject to mountain influence (under 1,200 mm per year), enjoy a milder climate more favourable to viticulture.
