Terroir
Natural factors
- The production is concentrated mainly on the eastern coastal fringe stretching from Bastia to Solenzara, the island's largest winegrowing area.
- The vineyard is above all coastal, with vines planted almost all the way around the island's perimeter, giving Corsican viticulture a strong sense of unity.
- Four soil types support the vine: arénisé granite, schist, clay-limestone, and alluvial soils, across a vineyard landscape dominated by plains and gently sloping land.
- The coastal Mediterranean climate is characterised by high cumulative temperatures and moderate rainfall, averaging 600 to 700 mm per year.
- The regional winds that influence the Corsican climate are the Tramontana from the north, the Maestrale from the north-west, the Libecciu from the south-west, the Sirocco from the south-east, and the Grégale, a powerful rain-bearing wind from the north-east on the eastern coastal fringe.
