Terroir

• The Atalanti valley is bounded to the north by Mount Knimida, to the south by Mount Chlomo, to the west by Parnassus, and to the east by the northern Euboean Gulf.
• Cool air currents flowing from Parnassus toward the sea aid ripening and help preserve the natural acidity of the grapes, contributing to the unique microclimate of the area.
• Vineyard elevations in the area range from 30 to 350 metres, on soils suited to viticulture where the cultivation techniques customary to the region are applied.
• The climate of the area is Mediterranean, cool in the mountainous parts, while along the coast it is mild in winter and cool in summer, with a mean annual temperature of 16.5 °C and mean annual rainfall of 570 mm.
• The vineyard soils are of medium organic-matter content, with moderately alkaline pH, and relatively high levels of calcium carbonate and clay.

• Legal documents from 1710 and 1797 record the sale and gift of vineyards, attesting to the existence of concentrated vineyard holdings under multiple owners in the area.
• In 1962 phylloxera appeared to bring centuries of tradition to an end, as the vines withered and were replaced by olive groves and wheat fields; replanting of the area began from 1973 onwards.
