The terrain of the area is semi-mountainous to mountainous, with gentle to steep natural gradients at elevations ranging from 300 m to 1,200 m, and an average slope of 20 to 40 degrees.
In the southern and western parts of the area, poor calcareous soils are found, while in the north and northeast there are volcanic and stony sloping soils with gradients exceeding 30 degrees.
The soil is generally terraced in order to make the establishment of vineyards feasible.
The mean daily temperature ranges around 20.4 °C at lower elevations and 15.1 °C at higher elevations of the Troodos mountain range, with an average daily sunshine of 8.2 hours.
The largest river in the area is the Kouris, 38 kilometres in length, which rises in the Troodos mountain range and flows from December through May.
