Natural factors
- Freely draining, predominantly sandy soils derived from ancient Loire alluvial deposits, with rounded pebbles, promoting rapid warming and water runoff.
- Clay-limestone soils on the Aquitanian-age "Beauce formations" on the north bank, occupying the edges of the limestone plateau.
- A degraded oceanic climate with continental influences, with an annual temperature approximately 0.7 °C lower than that of the more southerly vineyards of the Val de Loire.
