Terroir
Natural factors
- The largest part of the soil in the area consists of loamy fine sand, also known as cover sands (dekzanden).
- In the eastern part of the area there are smaller zones of fine sand in which boulder clay (keileem) is found within a depth of 120 cm.
- In the northeast and northwest, peat bog deposits occur locally as a soil type.
- In the centre of the area there are push-moraine formations from the last Ice Age, consisting mainly of coarse and fine, often gravel-rich river sands, known as the Sallandse heuvelrug.
- Along the IJssel there is a narrow strip of river clay, while near the German border in the Oldenzaal-Ootmarsum region a number of smaller, older push moraines occur.
Terroir / wine link
- The climate makes it possible to achieve the stated yields and ripeness levels, resulting in a fresh, fruity wine with green as well as tropical notes and a red wine with black and red fruit.
Facts drawn from the specification's terroir-link section by automatic interpretation — see the source.
