Natural factors
- Soils developed predominantly on soft carbonate rocks, with a profile evolution similar to the fliš soils of Primorska.
- Genetic soil sequence: rendzina → brown saturated soils → brown eutric soils → leached soils.
- Pseudogley dominates on Pleistocene and Pliocene ilovicas; acid brown soils prevail on ilovicas with siliceous gravel.
- Ranker soils and skeletal acid brown soils are represented on the acidic rocks of the Pohorje massif.
- Absolute vineyard elevations range from 220 to 600 m a.s.l.; north-facing exposures are excluded above certain slope thresholds.
