In the province of Trifylía lies the village of Ambelofyto, in an area that was once densely planted with vines and currant bushes.
From the small harbours of Agia Kyriaki and Agrili, olive oil, wine, and currants were exported directly, without intermediaries, to Trieste, Naples, Livorno, and London.
After the harvest, the grapes were brought to the stone treading floors or into vats, and on Saint Demetrios's Day towards the end of October the wines were tasted at a traditional harvest festival.
