Terroir

• The Val de Loire geographical area spans 14 departments within the Loire river basin, with the river shaping its landscapes from the Massif Central to the estuary of the Pays Nantais.
• The Loire passes through the ancient rocks of the Armorican Massif in the Nantais and Anjou, the white chalk of the Saumurois and Touraine, and on to the volcanic rocks of the Monts d'Auvergne.
• The overall temperate climate is oceanic in the Nantais region and in Anjou, with a continental influence in Touraine that becomes semi-continental in the Centre Loire.
• The Val de Loire vineyard benefits from regular rainfall throughout the year, ranging from 600 to 700 mm annually, and from mild temperatures without extremes.

• The Vins de Pays du Jardin de la France, created by the decree of 16 November 1981, became the Vins de Pays du Val de Loire under the decree of 12 May 2007.
• Of the 38 traditional grape varieties used in the production of the Val de Loire IGP, nearly 90% of the wines are produced as single-variety wines, with whites predominating.
