Human factors
- Scirocco Prisco (1875–1962) discovered around 1900 the first Casavecchia vine near a ruin in Pontelatone; the place name derives from the dialect expression «l'uva e chella casa vecchia» ('the grape and that old house').
- The vine's origins predate 1851: the powdery mildew epidemic of that year also affected the Casavecchia growing area, confirming an already well-established presence.
