Terroir

• The Comté Tolosan geographical area spans 12 departments of the South-West and covers the watershed of the Adour as well as the upper Garonne basin, bordered by the Pyrenees, the Massif Central, and the Atlantic Ocean.
• The majority of the Comté Tolosan vineyard is planted on Tertiary sedimentary soils of the Aquitaine basin and on ancient alluvial deposits of Quaternary terraces laid down by the river network.
• The peripheral vineyards display more varied geology, with secondary causse limestone plateaux to the north, Primary or metamorphic rocks of the Massif Central to the east, and a geologically complex piedmont of Pyrenean foothills to the south.
• The temperate oceanic climate follows a decreasing gradient from west to east, with mild, rainy winters and cool, humid summers in the west giving way to Mediterranean influence, with warmer and drier summers, towards the east.
• The Autan wind sweeps across the entire Comté Tolosan zone and beyond, from Narbonne to Bordeaux, sometimes for nine consecutive days, aerating the vines and grape bunches.
