Terroir

• The geological formations of the area consist of Mesozoic-Tertiary carbonate sediments such as dolomite, dolomitic calcarenites and limestone, along with Tertiary terrigenous sediments and Quaternary clastic and pyroclastic deposits.
• The terrigenous sediments consist of sandstone and multicoloured flaky clays, with brick-red, green and grey clay mantles outcropping on both the eastern and western slopes of the Massico.
• The soils of the area are typical Regosols with a predominant substrate of soft rocks such as sandstone, clay and calcarenite, and a generally shallow surface horizon.
• The area is hilly, with altitudes ranging between 200 and 650 metres above sea level, while according to Wikipedia the municipal territory has an elevation range with a minimum of 27 and a maximum of 230 metres.
• The climate features sheltered, well-exposed valley floors with mild temperatures and rainfall of around 1000 mm per year, while at higher elevations winters are colder and rainfall can reach 1400 mm per year.

• At Dugenta a substantial deposit was found, along with a kiln used to produce amphorae for the storage and trade of wine.
• The radial ('raggiera') training system, with wide spacing and up to 28 buds per vine distributed over 4 arched canes, has largely been replaced by systems such as guyot, spurred cordon and pendant curtain on trellises.
