Terroir

• The territory of Dugenta lies along the valley of the Volturno river, in a hilly setting at elevations ranging from 200 to 650 m above sea level.
• The lithological formations underlying the soils include Mesozoic–Tertiary carbonate sediments (dolomites, dolomitic limestones, and limestones), Tertiary terrigenous sediments (sandstones and variegated scaly clays), and Quaternary clastic and pyroclastic sediments.
• The dominant soils are Regosols, with a parent material consisting mainly of soft rocks such as sandstones, clays, and calcarenites, and a surface horizon that is generally shallow and sometimes very thin.
• The surface morphology is characterised by hills interspersed with flat-bottomed karstic depressions and incisions that bear witness to ancient Quaternary erosional phases.
