Terroir

• Soils are αμμοχαλικώδες with limestone rocks and σχιστόλιθος on the northern slopes of Πεντελικό.
• Altitude above 300 m with north to north-east aspect; the majority of vineyards are situated on slopes.
• Μεσογειακό κλίμα with annual rainfall of 500–600 mm, falling mainly between November and May, and low humidity of 50–70%.
• The influence of winds during summer is explicitly cited as a factor in the distinctiveness of the wines.
• The zone is delineated by Drosia–Anoixi–Ag. Stefanos–Lake Marathon–Dionysos, on the northern foothills of Πεντελικό.

• The area is identified with the ancient deme of Ikaria, from which the cult of Dionysus in Attica is traditionally held to have originated.

• The distinctiveness of the wines is attributed to the soil, climate, and summer wind influence in combination with grape varieties and viticultural techniques.
