Terroir

• Sandy-gravelly soils with limestone bedrock and schists on the northern slopes of Penteli.
• Altitude above 300 m with a north to north-easterly aspect; most vineyards are situated on slopes.
• Mediterranean climate with annual rainfall of 500–600 mm, mainly from November to May, and low humidity of 50–70%.
• The zone is delimited by Drosia–Anoixi–Agios Stefanos–Lake Marathon–Dionysos, on the northern foothills of Penteli.

• The area is identified with the ancient deme of Ikaria, from which the cult of Dionysus in Attica traditionally originated.
