Terroir
Natural factors
- A département of highly varied topography, ranging from the Durance corridor and dry plateaux to the Alpine massifs of the Ubaye.
- Soils are extremely diverse — sandy mollasse, calcareous sandstone, clay-loam, calcareous conglomerate, and gravelly types — all naturally well drained.
- The vine is planted on the adrets (sun-facing slopes) of the valleys, or on the plains of the Durance corridor.
- Pronounced diurnal temperature ranges promote anthocyanin synthesis and preserve natural acidity.
