Terroir

• The appellation area spans four departments in Lorraine (Meuse, Moselle, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Vosges), within the sedimentary Lorraine region on the eastern edge of the Paris Basin.
• The relief is defined by limestone cuesta ridges (Côtes de Meuse, de Moselle, infraliasique, de Lorraine) separated by plateaus and depressions.

• Orchards and vineyards are sited on marl slopes facing east and south-east and on the flanks of outlier hills; a foehn effect off the ridges limits rainfall.
