- Vineyard soils are αμμοχαλικώδες or sandy-loam, with neutral to slightly acidic pH and low active calcium.
- The climate is montane in the central, northern, and eastern zones, becoming milder and near-μεσογειακό κλίμα at lower elevations.
- Mean annual rainfall is 700–900 mm, with the wet season extending from September through May.
- Summer winds are a distinct factor shaping the uniqueness of the wines.
Human factors
- The ΠΓΕ Πισάτις takes its name from ancient Pisatis, one of the three districts of the ancient prefecture of Elis.
- Κτήμα Μερκούρη, founded in 1864, established the first vineyard planted with 'Refosco' cuttings from northern Italy (Friuli).
