Terroir
Natural factors
- Deep clay-loam soils, sometimes hydromorphic; vines restricted to sloping, well-drained relief.
- Sheltered climate on the eastern flank of the Morvan: a local thermal advantage and marked rainfall deficit, favourable to viticulture.
- Cool oceanic climate modified by continental and southerly influences channelled along the Rhône-Saône corridor; ~750 mm/year, mean temperature 10.5 °C.
