Terroir

• The lithological substrates of the hill ridges consist mainly of arenaceous turbidites, which give rise to coarse loamy soils with an acid to sub-acid reaction.
• To a lesser extent, calcareous-marly turbidites are present, giving rise to fine loamy soils with a neutral to sub-alkaline reaction.
• The altitude of vineyard land ranges from 0 to 2,200 m above sea level, with a prevailing range of 200 to 400 m and slopes of between 35 and 50%.
• The prevailing exposure of the vineyards is south-east-facing, and the distance from the sea ranges from 0 to 35 km.
• The mean temperature of the area is approximately 13°C, with a Huglin bioclimatic index of approximately 1,920°C and values ranging between 1,720 and 2,100 depending on the vintage.
• Mean annual rainfall is approximately 690 mm, with a peak in December (approximately 110 mm) and a minimum in July (average 16 mm).

• In the second half of the thirteenth century, vineyards were often interplanted with fig groves under the so-called 'aggrego' system, the dominant feature of the agricultural landscape in the Intemelia valleys and the hinterland of Imperia.
• Between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as entire vineyards were being destroyed by phylloxera, public bodies and cooperative agricultural consortia catalogued the best or most widespread native varieties, including Dolcetto or Ormeasco, Rossese (a black-berried variety), Vermentino, Pigato, and Sangiovese.

• The wines of the Terrazze dell'Imperiese IGT are distinguished by good acidity, vibrant colour, fine and delicate aromas, and a fresh, harmonious palate.
