• In the vineyards of this appellation, the Tertiary bedrock sequence ranges stratigraphically from the lowest quartz sands, through calcareous-cemented sandstones and marls, up to Leitha limestone at the top of the succession.
• In some areas the vineyards extend onto older Triassic limestones and dolomites, the limestones containing a relatively high proportion of chert.
• On each lithological substrate within this appellation at least three soil forms occur, which can be converted into vineyard soils by deep ripping (rigolanje), contributing to the wide qualitative diversity of the wines.
• The average sum of effective temperatures during the growing season in the Bizeljsko Sremič appellation ranges from 1,197.3 °C at Bizeljsko to 1,278.9 °C at Sremič, with an overall mean of 1,221.1 °C.
