Natural factors
- Territory coinciding with the Cotentin Peninsula, northern half of the Manche département, maximum elevation 170 m.
- Varied, deep, and well-drained soils, never sandy or sandy-gravelly, within a bocage landscape context.
- Strongly oceanic climate: rainfall on more than 150 days per year, 900–1,000 mm annually, low temperature variation, frequent westerly winds.
- Structuring bocage landscape: natural hedgerows limiting sightlines and dividing the orchards into small isolated plots.
