The geographic zone is limited to the single commune of Cornas (Ardèche), on the right bank of the Rhône, opposite Valence.
Soils derived from the porphyritic granites of Tournon (primary eruptive rocks), cultivated on steep slopes on small terraces with dry-stone retaining walls.

Product characteristics

Very deep colour, garnet to almost black, evolving toward amber tones with age.
Powerful, full-bodied wines that reach their peak after extended cellaring; renowned for their ability to age 18 to 20 years in the cellar.
