Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils of red clays, marls, and fine reddish sands, well suited to red wines.
- Skeletal soils with a high calcium carbonate content, favorable for red and aromatic wines.
- Towards the west, eroded brun-roșcat forest soils predominate; towards the east, rendzinas and pseudo-rendzinas.
- Predominantly south-facing slopes (gradient 8–30%), generating microclimates favorable to red-wine varieties.
- Minimum temperatures on the hillsides are approximately 3 °C higher than on the plain; hard winters are rare, allowing vines to overwinter without protection.
Human factors
- Viticulture in the area is documented from the 14th–15th centuries, with localities such as Ceptura and Valea Călugărească long recognized for the quality of their wines.
Product characteristics
- The area's climate imparts velvety texture and body to red wines, and roundness or freshness to white wines.
- High helio-thermal resources enable elevated concentrations of sugars, aromas, color, and phenolic compounds in the grapes.
Terroir / wine link
- The red clay and marl soils on the western slopes (Ceptura, Valea Călugărească) are reflected in the velvety texture and body of the red wines.
