Natural factors
- Kontinentális klíma with a sub-Mediterranean character: western oceanic and southern Mediterranean air currents shape the climate.
- Annual mean temperature 9–11 °C, sunshine ~1,900 hours/year, precipitation 600–800 mm/year.
- Soils: Ramann's illuvial barna erdőtalaj (brown forest soil with clay illuviation), with good water-retention capacity.
- A landscape articulated by hills and moderate mountain ranges; streams, rivers, and lakes at the foot of the slopes.
- Medium- and late-ripening varieties (Kadarka, Kékfrankos, Olaszrizling, Szürkebarát) are cultivated on south-, SE-, and SW-facing hillsides.
