Terroir
Natural factors
- Moraine amphitheater south of the lake: concentric hill ranges deposited by the Günz, Mindel, Riss, and Würm glaciations.
- "Sub-Mediterranean" climate: the lake's water mass tempers continental influences; frost on the shores is almost absent, with the last occurrence recorded in 1706.
- Periodic or diurnal winds generated by atmospheric pressure differences between the lower and upper lake, channeled through the narrow throat of the basin.
- Volcanic soils in the eastern areas of the appellation influence Garganega: distinctive tertiary sulfurous notes.
- The appellation extends from the low morainic undulations to the high terraced hillsides, with varied geomorphological features.
Human factors
- Human and viticultural presence documented as far back as 5000 BC: the oldest plow ever found was discovered on the morainic hills of the Garda.
Product characteristics
- Still whites and reds: intense, predominantly floral aromas, fresh flavors with marked sapidity and a soft palate, shaped by the Garda microclimate and morainic soils.
- Metodo classico sparkling wine (cat. 5): blended cuvées, rich and complex, the result of extended lees aging.
Terroir / wine link
- On the volcanic soils of the eastern areas of the appellation, Garganega develops distinctive tertiary sulfurous notes.
