Natural factors

- Relief: vineyards on south-, southeast-, and southwest-facing slopes, with plains also permitted; max. 11,000 vines/ha.
- Clay-loam soils have good water retention, ensuring moisture for the vine even during the hottest and driest periods.
Human factors
- Blue varieties are vinified with maceration on the skins; malolactic fermentation proceeds by addition of Oenococcus oeni or spontaneously.

Product characteristics
- Red wines are characterised by higher extractivity; with ageing they acquire a velvety smoothness and fullness.
- Sparkling wines from the region show elevated aromatics; they are fresh with persistent effervescence and a golden-yellow colour.
