Terroir

• The vineyards are located in southwestern Bulgaria, in the Struma Valley and at the foot of the southwestern slopes of the Pirin mountain range.
• The climate is transitional Mediterranean, with warm Aegean influence felt throughout the year, channelled inland along the Struma Valley; winters are short, mild, and snowless, summers are hot, and autumn is long and warm.
• Mean annual precipitation totals 530 mm, and the mean elevation of the area is approximately 250–300 metres above sea level.
• The cumulative heat sum for the period when mean daily temperatures exceed 10°C, spanning the months of April through October, reaches up to 4,400°C, and the mean daily temperature of the warmest month is 24.6°C.
• The soils in the vineyard area are forest soils, heavily eroded and leached.

• The authorised wine-grape variety for the production of red and rosé wines under the PDO Harsovo is Shiroka Melnishka Loza.
• The training systems applied in the vineyards are Umbrella, Moser, and mid-trunk double-arm cordon; pruning is mixed and spur-based, with a bud load of up to 54 buds per vine.

• Wine made from Shiroka Melnishka Loza is distinguished by a characteristic and intense bouquet dominated by ripe cherry and spice, with notes of small wild berries and piquant hints of tobacco.
