Terroir
Natural factors
- Calcareous sandy soil (humus-rich and drift sand) dominates the site; its 75%+ quartz content provides phylloxera immunity.
- Flat terrain: maximum 150 m above sea level, with elevation differences of only 10–20 m.
- Kontinentális klíma: hot summers, cold winters, 2,000+ sunshine hours per year, mean temperature 10–11 °C.
- Annual precipitation of 450–500 mm with uneven distribution; the rapid warming of the sandy soil promotes grape ripening.
- The lower mineral content of the sandy soil is reflected in the wines: a less mineral, quickly evolving style.
Human factors
- Traditional varieties: Ezerjó, Kadarka, Kövidinka; vineyards planted to stabilise drift sand continue to shape the landscape to this day.
Product characteristics
- White/rosé: intense aromas, juicy and flavourful; red: fruity, light-bodied, with less depth and less pronounced tannins.
- Sandy-soil influence: the wines are less mineral, develop quickly, and are recommended for shorter ageing and earlier consumption.
