- Predominant soils: grey forest soils, slightly to moderately eroded, lightly clayey to medium- to heavy-textured sandy-clay.
- Relief ranges from flat (Дунавска равнина) to hilly in the southern parts and along the northern slopes of Стара планина.
- The region encompasses land in Montana Province, positioned between the Danube River to the south and the northern slopes of Стара планина to the north.

- Permitted varieties: white – Riesling, Vratsa Misket, Chardonnay; red – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir.
