Natural factors
- The vineyard backs onto the southern foothills of the Larzac and is bordered to the north by Mont Baudille, which rises to 848 m and closes off the landscape and the view.
- The vineyard lies at elevations between 100 and 350 metres, crossed to the west by the Lagamas and to the east by the Avenc stream.
- The Mediterranean climate is marked by dominant north and north-west winds, dry and cooled by the Causse, causing significant day/night temperature swings in summer.
- Average annual rainfall reaches 750 mm, with a pronounced summer rainfall dip of around 120 mm and few rainy days.
- The soils combine Permo-Triassic marl formations enriched with limestone scree, hard dolomitic limestones, and a stony plateau resulting from a cryoclastic spread glacis of Quaternary origin.
- The neighbouring Causse, marked by the underground network of the Clamouse and its resurgences such as the Puits du Drac, plays a regulating role in the water supply of the geographical area.
Product characteristics
- The red wines show a deep purple colour in their youth, with complex aromas of garrigue, ripe fruit, liquorice, pepper and dried flowers.
- These wines have a well-defined structure with fine tannins, roundness and a marked freshness, qualities that make them suitable for ageing.
Terroir / wine link
- Low humidity, frequent winds and a strong thermal differential between summer days and nights favour freshness and aromas, and give the wines fine tannins, roundness and freshness.
