Human factors
- Garnacha blanca and Macabeo are the two traditional white varieties; the former, fuller-bodied, is suited to ageing in oak barrels.
- The tradition of fortified wines (rancio and sweet) is historic in the area; in earlier times every family winery kept one barrel of each style.
Product characteristics
- Reds from Garnacha and Mazuela: full-bodied wines, suitable for ageing when yields are kept in check.
- Garnacha blanca: more body and structure than Macabeo, suited to ageing or fermentation in oak despite a tendency to oxidise.
Terroir / wine link
- Garnacha tinta and Mazuela yield full-bodied wines, suitable for ageing when vine yields are controlled.
