Terroir

• The Ull de llebre variety predominates in the southern part of the appellation, which is warmer than the rest of the territory.

• The appellation maintains the tradition of producing liqueur wines, including vino rancio and sweet wine, a practice deeply rooted in the northern part of the province of Tarragona.
• Today the production of liqueur wines is far more systematised than it once was, though it retains a small place within overall production.

• Garnacha blanca, with more body and structure than Macabeo, is well suited to ageing or fermenting in oak barrels, despite its natural tendency to oxidise.
• Both Mazuela (Samsó) and Garnacha tinta yield full-bodied wines, well suited to ageing, especially when yields are controlled and vinification is handled with care.
