Natural factors
- Zone in the extreme south-eastern tip of Sicilia, with flat to gently hilly terrain ranging from 0 to 300 m a.s.l.
- Hot, arid Mediterranean climate: average temperature 17.6 °C, among the highest in Sicilia, with peak highs in July and August.
- Average annual rainfall approximately 400 mm, concentrated in autumn and winter; precipitation is scarce in summer.
- Predominantly calcareous brown soils; also present are argillaceous regosoils, calcarei soils, and Mediterranean red soils.
