Natural factors
- The vineyards lie in the far north-western part of the Дунавска равнина hilly plain, immediately on the bank of the Danube River, at an average elevation of 210 m a.s.l.
- The soils are leached чернозем, moderately eroded, with a weakly developed humus horizon and a clay-sandy mechanical composition over a calcareous subsoil.
- The climate is continental – hot summers, cold winters; annual precipitation approximately 580 mm; heat summation (>10 °C) 3,800 °C.
- The proximity of the Danube and the hilly relief create a specific microclimate that determines the character of the grapes and the wine.
- The soil and climatic conditions favour grapes with a sugar content of 21% and acidity of 7.5 g/l, yielding wines with approximately 12–12.5% vol. alcohol.
Product characteristics
- Dense ruby-red colour with dominant aromas of ripe dark fruits.
- Extractive, deeply coloured, and alcohol-rich wines – the result of the microclimate, the calcareous subsoil, and viticultural restrictions.
Terroir / wine link
- Leached чернозем with a calcareous subsoil forms light-textured soils that favour grape sugar levels of 21% and acidity of 7.5 g/l.
- The proximity to the Danube and the hilly relief, combined with the light calcareous soils, predetermine the production of extractive, deeply coloured, alcohol-rich wines.
- Dense ruby-red colour and dominant nuances of ripe dark fruits are a direct sensory expression of the terroir.
