- The fliš of Grey Istria contains lapor, pješčenjak, and softer vapnenac; soils are shallow, young, and highly susceptible to erosion.
- The climate of Primorska Hrvatska is predominantly mediteranska and submediteranska; the sum of effective temperatures during the growing season ranges from 1,650 to over 2,000 °C.
- Dalmatian soils are developed predominantly on vapnenac and dolomite; crvenica, brown soils over vapnenac, alluvial soils, and skeletal soils predominate.
- Central Primorska Hrvatska (Krk, Pag, Novi Vinodolski) features typical and lessivated crvenica, anthropogenic karst soils, and deep-ripped soil on loess.
Human factors
