- Soils of the ΠΓΕ Euboea zone: sandy, sandy-loam, loam, sandy-clay-loam to clay, medium mechanical composition (SL, SCL), neutral pH.
- Vineyards from 10 m to 600 m elevation, on the slopes of the Dirfys mountain massif (1,745 m).
- Μεσογειακό κλίμα: mean annual temperature 18.4 °C, summer 24.9 °C, winter 10.5 °C.
- Mean annual rainfall 1,193.2 mm, with elevated precipitation from October through April.
- Strong north-easterly winds in winter; light to moderate winds in spring and summer.
Human factors
- Cretan winemaking with resin is documented as early as 2200–2700 BC, based on analysis of clay vessels found east of Myrtos.
- In 1914, the 'MARKO Cooperative' was founded in Markopoulo, producing 200 tonnes of wine and supplying the entire Attica basin.
