Terroir

• The soils of the production area are of Eocene origin, formed by alternating marls and sandstones that give rise to the formation known as flysch, locally called ponca.
• The soil is of a loamy-silty-clay type with a moderately alkaline reaction, fairly low total limestone content, and active limestone within normal ranges.
• The soil shows low nitrogen content, medium-low potassium, very low phosphorus, very high calcium, and medium magnesium, with a medium-to-low cation exchange capacity.
• The compactness of the marly soil is not high and, combined with rather poor permeability, causes erosion through surface water runoff, to the extent that the vineyards require terracing and contour-following rows.
• The mean temperature during the growing season is 18.6 °C with average rainfall of 915 mm; the heat summation from 1 April to 31 October is 1,834 degree-days, compared with the provincial average of 1,806 degree-days, reflecting a phenological advance of five days.

• A document dated 20 January 1341 records that Patriarch Bertrando threatened excommunication against certain individuals who, having occupied a woodland belonging to the Abbey of Rosazzo, refused to plant it with vines.
• The appellation requires a minimum planting density of 4,000 vines per hectare for new plantings and replantings, while the pursuit of quality has led to the adoption of training systems such as Guyot, spur-trained cordon, and double inverted arch.

• Rosazzo wine presents a straw-yellow colour of varying intensity, with a characteristic and delicate nose, and a dry, harmonious, and vinous palate.
• On the palate these wines show great depth, coming across as rich and silky, and they maintain a consistency of quality that, in the most favourable vintages, allows for extended ageing.
