Terroir

• The appellation is situated in the hilly-rolling depressions of the Sebeș-Secaș and Apold areas, at the junction of the Secașe Plateau with the Șurianului-Cindrelului Mountains.
• The sculptural hilly-rolling relief is associated with depositional landforms along the main valleys — terraces, colluvio-proluvial glacis slopes, and floodplains — offering excellent land for viticulture.
• The soils of the appellation include argillic soils (brown argillo-illuvial and podzolised soils) with intercalations of pseudorendzinas on the valley terraces, as well as mollic soils of chernozem type, namely leached chernozems, locally gleyed.
• On slopes subject to more intense erosion, azonal soils are encountered — such as regosols and erosols — which are favoured for vine cultivation.
• Annual rainfall averages 550–600 mm, ranging from 550 mm in the Mureș Corridor and 569 mm at Sebeș up to 600–650 mm on the hilltops and in the Apold Depression.

• The white wines display fruitiness, vinosity, and a characteristic freshness at higher acidity, with aromas of honey, musk, almonds, and gooseberry; a more pronounced acidity may bring fruity notes of grapefruit, pomelo, or green bell pepper.
• The red wines show a ruby to deep ruby-red colour, with fine aromas of blackcurrant and blueberry, good body, and aromas of raspberry, blackberry, sour cherry, and dried plum, along with a smoky nuance or a hint of hot pepper.
• The white wines have potential for maturation in oak vessels and bottle ageing, their characteristic colour ranging from pale yellow to yellow-green or yellow-green with golden tints.
• Through maturation in barriques, the red wines gain delicate traces of vanilla on the nose, and barrique ageing imparts an oak-derived signature of vanilla or tobacco.
