Terroir

• The soils are generally characterised by good drainage owing to their composition, texture, and/or gradient, along with medium to low fertility.
• The temperature regime during ripening is characteristically moderate, with cool nights, and the warmth typical of the latitude is counterbalanced by the zone's position in a climatic transition area and by mesoclimatic factors.
• The zone enjoys very high levels of sunshine, which favours the production of musts with high natural alcoholic strength, as required for wines made from overripe grapes.
• The orographic complexity of the zone encourages small farming units that enhance the expression of terroir.
