Terroir

• The climate of the Sithonia peninsula is typically Mediterranean, generally sunny with little rainfall, sunny winters, and cool summers with abundant sunshine.
• The warmest months are July and August, with average daily maximum temperatures of around 26°C, while the coldest months are February and March.
• Mean annual rainfall ranges from 500 to 600 mm, with the greater share falling during the period from October through April.
• The winds prevailing in the area are mainly northerly to north-easterly, while southerly winds blow mainly during the summer period.
• During the summer months, sunshine exceeds 10 hours per day, while temperature differences throughout the year vary across different parts of the peninsula.

• The first systematic vine plantings on the western side of Sithonia began in early 1965 at the Porto Carras estate, creating a genuine revolution in the winemaking landscape of Greece at the time.
• Noteworthy was the adaptation in the area of the foreign variety Syrah, as well as of a rare white variety from central Greece, Malagousia.
